When the dedicated graphics GPU fails, the screen tends to go black.
I read a bit from other forums regarding the Graphics card. Can u tell me where did u buy the NVIDIA GE FORCE 8400M GT Chip - I own VGN FZ290 - my graphic card has spoilt & the company says they Purehazard had the SZ model. Recently, however, I've been having display problems.

Or am I silly to imaging that any electronic device should last (like a good car) perhaps 7+ years? It was fixed with Sony's recall in 2009.

- In fact, if you just remove the hard drive and turn the computer on, this will remove the green lines on the screen problem for a period of time.

Were the "new" card 95% certain to last another three years, that might be fine, but if there is a double-digit risk that it fail in 6 months, that's not fine. so i thought it would be stupid to give those thieves so much money. I only found a recall for the vgn TZ models, not the fz-340e. I would have scrapped it and when on to the next computer. After pushing the power button happened nothing. I just came across this fix..
So still no one find a solution for poor Sony Vaio owners? As it was, Nvidia was at fault. Found the NV_DISP.inf I just edited and double clicked on it. As the laptop was in beautiful condition I sent the motherboard to a Vaio specialist who replaced the duff graphics chip with an upgraded version using specialised equipment.
so i wanted to get the laptop in its original condition. i ordered a 8400m gt nvidia chip myself and replaced it with the faulty one, ofcourse help from a local computer hardware store was required. anybody a solution for this problem?matheoHi ! Then I cut out a section of foil inside the outline and covered the motherboard so that only the GPU was showing. Do I need to change the entire motherboard or just the video chipset?
