But what we can do is create a batch file with something arbitrary in it and then tell Windows Task Scheduler that it can wake the computer to run it. As it is right now, I have adjusted to allow essential wake timers only. Anyone know how to get around this without using pstools?

- It should be under the power management section of the BIOS, named something like "Wake by RTC etc".
- I have to change to "run only when user is logged on" and it works !
- Rather than sending wake-on-LAN packets every time I wanted to access a file on my Windows file server, I decided to leave the thing on from 10 AM to 10 PM

I think the laptop should not only wake up from hibernation (because of hybrid sleep option is on), but also if it was completely shut off. I can make it hibernate and wake up using the power button with no problem, but scheduled task won't wake it up.

I've also had an issue with accounts that have no password before. If the command was successful, then you’ll get no error messages. I have debugged with tons of check boxes, and setting it to wake a few minutes ahead of me, but the machine won't do it. Computer will go sleep as scheduled but it won't wake up.
Would be interesting to know why wake from sleep goes back to sleep - bug in Windows? I have enabled wake timers in the Windows Power Options, and selected "wake this computer" in the conditions tab in task scheduler. Allow wake timers is enabled in power configuration, and BIOS settings are correct as it woke up when had Win7 installed. Otherwise just reference shutdown.exe in the task scheduler with the slash commands… ..
